ML Design and environmentally sustainable development...
The professional design team at ML Design is committed to achieving a sustainable outcome for all of our projects - be it in architecture, master planning or interior design.
We understand that every project is different and, as a result, our overall ESD philosophy seeks to achieve a balance between the social, economic and environmental aspects of each project.
In master planning, this commitment was recently acknowledged by Green Globe, at the Salt Residential Community at Kingscliff NSW. This project, master planned by ML Design, will be used by Green Globe as a benchmark reference for other master planned communities and a pilot study for future 'Precinct Planning' accreditation assessments.
In architecture, ML Design is currently designing two (2) different commercial building projects where both clients are striving to achieve a 4 star rating with the GBCA Green Star - Office Design rating tool. It is our collective aim that this will also be followed through in the tenancy design also.
In interior design, ML Design is proud to have been part of the project team for the interior refurbishment of the Customer Service Centre for the Environmental Protection Agency, which is currently seeking a 5 Star rating using the GBCA Green Star - Office Interiors v1.1 rating tool. This project has highlighted for ML Design, the importance of project team dynamics and cooperation, with all participants (client, architect, builder, services consultants and suppliers) working towards a common goal for a superior solution for not only the end user, but the greater community. Working in conjunction with the EPA as a client, has also been a valuable experience, giving ML Design a practical perspective on Green Star related issues.
ML Design is hopeful that their efforts to date will culminate in the certification of the EPA Customer Service Centre as a 5 star green rated Office Interior, thereby setting the benchmark for green rated Office Interior Design in Queensland, for other project teams to follow.
Since completing this project, project leader Natalie Wright (ML Design’s Interior Design Manager) has attended the GBCA Green Star Accredited Professional course and intends to sit the examination, allowing ML Design to make a useful and well informed contribution on the subject of Green Buildings, to all future projects.
