Laing O’Rourke wins top accolade at 2006 Master Builders Awards
National Building News, 11/11/2006
Laing O’Rourke (the new owner of Barclay Mowlem) has been awarded the Queensland Master Builders 2006 State Project of the Year award for the construction of Stockland’s South Bank Saville Hotel and Apartments project.
The project, which has successfully melded 88 boutique apartments with a 161-suite, 4.5 star hotel, meeting and function rooms, 20m lap pool, retail outlets and four levels of car parking, was previously acknowledged with the overall win as the Project of the Year at the 2006 Brisbane regional Master Builders awards on October 25.
In addition, Laing O’Rourke was the Queensland State Winner of the Tourism and Hospitality Facilities over $20 million award for the Peppers Salt Resort and Spa project constructed for the Ray Group at Kingscliff on the northern NSW coast.
The construction of Peppers Salt Resort and Spa consisted of eight low-rise buildings accommodating 41 beach house units, 165 apartments, conference facilities and a restaurant and lobby area. The scope of works was not limited to buildings but also included extensive landscaping and pool areas.
The Master Builders Housing and Construction Awards recognise companies at the forefront of building innovation excellence in the housing and construction industry.
“Both these projects provided significant challenges,” said Laing O’Rourke’s General Manager Building North, Greg Little.
“However, the team overcame these obstacles to construct two signature projects for our clients and I would like to acknowledge everyone involved and their contribution to the winning of these awards.
