Seachange awaits 390 new buyers

Weekend Bulletin, 17/09/2007

Construction of the $180 million Arundel Seachange estate will begin next week after council pushed through a development application to build more than 390 homes.

The over-50s estate in Napper Road includes a commitment from the Arundel Springs Living Company to build a community centre. Local councillor Rob Molhoek said the estate  had been refined over the past year to ensure that the massive 205,100sqm site was used appropriately.

"This has been back to the drawing board a few times and the local Arundel-Parkwood residents' associations have been in constant consultation with the developers and that is how the community centre came about." said Cr Molhoek.

A commercial section of the development was scrapped after fears from Arundel businesses that the area was already overcrowded. A residents' recreational club will be built to service a range of townhouses and small homes.  There will be a total of 26, 262sqm for public open space and 4212sqm for internal parks.

"This was always a major facet of the proposal and that was to ensure that the open spaces weren't compromised, and I feel that has been dealt with," he said.

Cr Dawn Crichlow successfully pushed for the developer to include a community bus as part of the application. Queensland building industry identity Bob Holland has been appointed general manager of housing for the new estate.

The community was planned by architect Brian Toyota, who has been involved with landmark projects including Salt and the Hyatt Regency at Sanctuary Cove.
