Bevan Lynch chairs the Independent Advisory Panel (IDAP), a truly independent body charged with providing advice and suggestions on design elements of strategically important projects, large and small. IDAP has also taken on project-based activities and provided advice and feedback on relevant aspects of Council’s policy framework.
IDAP members are leaders from a range of planning, design, industry and social policy disciplines. None of the panel members is an existing employee of Brisbane City Council, and this unique arrangement allows IDAP to provide real-world, cutting-edge advice from an industry perspective.
In 2008, IDAP focused on matters such as:
- assessment and input to master planning for the Brisbane Airport precinct
- provision of advice on elements of the proposed expansion and development at 1 Airport Drive
- consideration and advice on several proposals to construct high-rise towers in the CBD, Fortitude Valley, Kangaroo Point and other highly visible location
- conducting a comprehensive review of Council’s character housing provisions, in partnership with the Architects Practice Academy, anticipated to result in the adoption of a new suite of performance-based criteria and guidelines to assist in preserving and enhancing Brisbane’s unique ‘timber and tin’ character areas
- provision of advice on the development of the Valley Overall Urban Design Structure following on from the Valley Vision
- consideration of design aspects for ventilation complexes for cross-city tunnels
- provision of advice on preferred properties for the City Centre Vibrant Laneways and Small Spaces Program
- assistance with the Roma Street Subtropical Boulevard Project
- consideration and advice on draft proposals for the South Brisbane Riverside Neighbourhood Plan.
IDAP will continue its key advisory role through 2009 and will also contribute to activities including;
- Neighbourhood Plans
- the City Plan review
- a policy framework to reward excellence in design, environmental and community benefit outcomes.
