RENOWNED architect Bevan Lynch has been appointed as the new chairman of Brisbane City Council’s independent advisory group, the Urban Futures Brisbane Board.
Lynch takes over the role from outgoing chairman Professor Michael Keniger, who spent three and a half years in the job.
Lord Mayor Campbell Newman said the board played an important role in shaping the future of the city.
It gave the council strategic independent advice at early stages of the development of plans, strategies and development proposals, he said.
He added it would continue to play an important role with the population continuing to grow and the council forecasting that 156,000 new dwellings have to be delivered by 2031 under the South-East Queensland Regional Plan.
The appointment of Lynch coincides with the expansion of the chairman’s role to become a consultant to council directly responsible for the delivery of significant urban planning projects.
