A design competition organised by the ADTA for a Hotel and Convention Facility. The design brings together the architectural forms of the Bedouin tent, the sunbaked brick fortified town, the caravanserai and the harbour . This courtyard is based on the traditional geometric form of the 8 pointed star, the intersecting squares that are a basic pattern in Arabic art. The hotel plan, beach restaurant and the specialty restaurant in the harbour repeat this pattern. The roof forms of the caravanserai blend the ancient domes and flat roofs of traditional desert architecture.
