A concept master plan for a new city designed to house up to 100,000 workers in dormitory-style accommodation on a 100 hectare greenfield site in Dubai.
Designed to promote a sense of neighbourhood and community identity, the plan clusters four-storey “L-shaped” accommodation buildings around central neighbourhood plazas, lined with open-air dining areas. Rooftops and internal garden courtyards are used for passive recreation. Traditional “wind towers” promote natural ventilation of communal zones within buildings.
Central Village Centres accommodating shops, community facilities, mosques and entertainment facilities open onto centrally located cricket/football pitches. Designed to take advantage of a policy to ban private cars in favour of bus transport, the plan’s tight-knit massing reflects traditional built form patterns of the region.
