The first stage of the MacArthur Central Development is the retail component with frontages to Queen, Elizabeth and Edward Street. The site area has yielded a total GFA of 19,000m2 with 12,000m2 of shopping area. MacArthur Central provides a unique facility over four levels including specialty retail, food and beverage, major department store and mini-major grocery store. Basement levels accommodate approximately 250 vehicles for retail, residential and commercial uses as well as a full service dock facility for commercial and retail activity.
The architectural form is both uniquely contemporary and reverential to the adjoining MacArthur Chambers and Brisbane GPO buildings. A high level of transparency and accessibility has been created to its major frontages and contemporary materials and forms utilised to provide a distinctive destination in the Brisbane CBD.
The second stage of the development is the construction of the commercial tower of sixteen levels, with a total GFA of 28,500m2. The ‘A’ grade tower was constructed over the operating retail centre below and rises distinctly between the historic landmarks of the Brisbane GPO and MacArthur Chambers buildings. A clearly defined entry statement has been created adjacent to the GPO connecting to a lofty longitudinal foyer of premium quality. The distinctive contemporary architectural expression has been used to develop a cost effective, highly glazed facade of refined and modulated form appropriate to tenants seeking a prestigious CBD address.
