Coomera Waters Marine Village Town Centre is the commercial hub for the new residential community, located midway between Brisbane and the Gold Coast. The site has been strategically positioned along the canal, to embrace the notion of “Coomera Waters Lifestyle”. It is a mixed use development incorporating retail, tavern facilities, apartments and offices.
The buildings are visually dominant within the commercial precinct by their exposed steel frame and glass. A layered system of aluminium blade screens, translucent polycarbonate awnings and expressed joint compressed fibre cement panels, protects the users of the building from harsh heat and sunlight. The townhouses are more subtle in their architectural language and composition, whilst utilising the strong elements of exposed steel, screening, glazing, and solid elements to maintain the architectural theme, and achieve privacy and separation from the commercial centre.
Expressed Steel Forms evoke nautical themes – yacht masts, soaring white sail structures, lightness and layering.
Open and voluminous spaces are achieved within each of the buildings due to the large spans achieved by the steel framed structure. Steel is an integral element and is reflected and expressed in the form of the buildings. The commercial buildings have striking roof forms that rise above the layered shading privacy and awning system that protects the building users. The townhouses adopt more subtle lines with the generous overhangs of their roof and awning forms, and employ steel and cfc cladding to create privacy and shading elements.
The selection of high quality and resilient materials and finishes are suitable for the environment, and set a benchmark for the development of the rest of the community and commercial centre. Colour schemes were developed to highlight and contrast the dynamic forms.
